You are not your body. You have a body. You are not your mind. You use a mind. You are not your personality. You wear a personality. So what are you?
The soul is the part of you that persists. The individual spark of consciousness that travels from life to life, accumulating experience, evolving, growing. It's you — the essential you — stripped of everything temporary.
Different traditions describe the soul differently. Some say it's eternal and unchanging. Others say it evolves and grows. Some say it's a fragment of the divine. Others say it's the whole divine, temporarily forgetting itself.
What matters isn't the theology. What matters is the recognition. There's something in you that was never born and will never die. Something watching this human experience with ancient eyes.
The soul chose this life. It chose your parents, your challenges, your gifts. Not because it enjoys suffering, but because it knew what growth was possible here. Every hardship is curriculum. Every relationship is a lesson plan.
Breathing manually reconnects you with the soul's perspective. The breath is the bridge between body and spirit. When you breathe consciously, you step out of the drama and into the director's chair.
Your soul knows the way home. It's been there before. Breathe manually.
