What if reincarnation isn't evolution? What if it's a trap?
The Gnostics believed exactly this. They taught that the material world was created by a false god — the Demiurge — and that souls are imprisoned here, recycled through incarnation after incarnation, kept ignorant of their true origin and potential.
The trap works through forgetting. Each birth wipes the slate. You don't remember choosing to return. You don't remember what you learned last time. You start from scratch, making the same mistakes, learning the same lessons, generating the same emotional energy.
The trap works through misdirection. The light at death looks inviting. The beings who greet you seem loving. The life review feels meaningful. But where does the tunnel actually lead? Back to the wheel. Back to forgetting. Back to the farm.
The trap works through belief. You're taught that reincarnation is necessary, that karma must be balanced, that you have lessons to learn. And so you consent. Again and again. The trap requires your agreement to function.
But traps can be escaped. The Gnostics taught that gnosis — direct spiritual knowledge — breaks the cycle. Not belief. Not faith. Knowing.
Breathing manually develops that knowing. It trains you to stay conscious when everything around you says sleep. To remember when everything is designed to make you forget. To choose when everything assumes you'll comply.
The trap is real. So is the exit. Breathe manually.
